Cosmetic Grade Silica White Carbon Black For Personal Care Products Improving Texture And Stability Suitable For Skincare And Makeup Products

Time : 2025-08-22
The personal care and cosmetic industry has strict requirements for product quality, safety, and sensory experience. Consumers are increasingly pursuing products with natural, non-irritating, and multi-functional properties. Silicon dioxide (silica/white carbon black/silicon dioxide), as a safe and effective cosmetic additive, has been widely used in skincare products, makeup, and hair care products. It can act as a thickener, suspending agent, absorbent, and texture modifier, improving the product’s stability, spreadability, and user experience without causing skin irritation or allergic reactions.
In skincare products such as lotions, creams, and serums, white carbon black is mainly used as a thickener and stabilizer. Many skincare products contain oil and water phases, which are prone to stratification during storage. Adding 0.5-2% of fumed silica to the product can form a three-dimensional network structure in the emulsion, effectively preventing the separation of oil and water. The ultra-fine particle size of fumed silica (5-10nm) ensures that it does not affect the product’s texture—after adding, the lotion remains smooth and easy to spread, without feeling gritty. For example, a well-known skincare brand added our fumed silica to their hyaluronic acid serum. The serum remained stable without stratification after 12 months of storage at room temperature, while the serum without white carbon black stratified after 3 months. Moreover, the silica can improve the skin’s absorption of active ingredients—during application, the silica particles can temporarily open the skin’s pores, allowing hyaluronic acid and other nutrients to penetrate deeper into the skin, enhancing the serum’s moisturizing effect. In addition, research has shown that fumed silica can also help to prevent the oxidation of certain active ingredients in skincare products, thereby extending the shelf life of the products. This is because the silica particles can form a protective layer around the active ingredients, shielding them from oxygen and other reactive substances in the environment.
In makeup products such as foundation, powder, and eyeshadow, white carbon black plays a key role in improving texture and color stability. Foundation requires good coverage, spreadability, and long-lasting wear. Adding precipitated white carbon black with a particle size of 15-20nm to the foundation formula can improve the product’s coverage—by adjusting the addition amount (2-5%), the foundation can cover skin blemishes such as dark spots and redness without feeling heavy. At the same time, the silica’s oil absorption capacity can control the skin’s sebum secretion, making the foundation last for 8 hours or more without makeup fading. In powder products such as loose powder and pressed powder, white carbon black is used as an anti-caking agent. Traditional powder products are prone to caking due to moisture absorption, affecting their use. Adding 1-3% of hydrophobic silica (modified with silane coupling agent) to the powder can form a protective layer on the surface of powder particles, preventing moisture absorption and caking. Our hydrophobic silica has an oil absorption value of 200-250ml/100g, which can absorb excess oil on the skin, keeping the makeup fresh and matte. Additionally, white carbon black can also enhance the color intensity and vibrancy of eyeshadow and other pigmented makeup products. By evenly dispersing the pigments, it ensures a more consistent and vivid color payoff, reducing the likelihood of color fading or uneven application.
In hair care products such as shampoo and hair conditioner, white carbon black is used to improve the product’s viscosity and hair smoothness. Shampoo needs to have appropriate viscosity to ensure easy use and uniform distribution on the hair. Adding 0.3-0.8% of precipitated white carbon black to the shampoo formula can increase the product’s viscosity from 5000cp to 8000cp, making it easier to lather and spread. In hair conditioner, the silica can form a protective film on the hair surface, reducing friction between hair strands—after use, the hair becomes smooth and easy to comb, without tangling. A hair care brand in South Korea used our white carbon black in their anti-frizz hair conditioner. Customer feedback shows that 90% of users felt their hair was smoother and less frizzy after using the product for 2 weeks. Moreover, white carbon black can also help to repair damaged hair cuticles. Its fine particles can penetrate into the damaged areas of the hair, filling in the gaps and smoothing the surface, which helps to improve the overall appearance and health of the hair.
Our company’s cosmetic-grade white carbon black meets the international standards of INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) and has passed the testing of authoritative institutions such as SGS and FDA. The product has a high purity—SiO₂ content ≥99.8%, heavy metal content ≤0.1ppm, and no microbial contamination (total bacterial count ≤10CFU/g). We provide two types of cosmetic-grade silica: hydrophilic and hydrophobic. Hydrophilic silica is suitable for water-based skincare products such as lotions and serums; hydrophobic silica is suitable for oil-based products such as foundations and lipsticks, as it has better compatibility with oil phases. Our manufacturing process adheres to strict quality control measures at every stage, from raw material procurement to final product packaging. Each batch of white carbon black undergoes multiple rounds of testing, including particle size analysis, surface area measurement, and chemical composition verification, to ensure consistent product quality.
