Polypropylene fibers are derived from propylene monomers. Propylene, a crucial petrochemical product, is mainly obtained through oil refining and cracking processes. During oil refining, crude oil is separated into various fractions, and propylene can be further produced by cracking specific hydrocarbon fractions.
These propylene monomers then undergo polymerization under specific conditions. In the polymerization reaction, a catalyst is usually used to facilitate the chemical bonding of numerous propylene molecules. This results in the formation of long chain polypropylene polymers.
Subsequently, these polypropylene polymers are processed through techniques like melt spinning. In melt spinning, the molten polypropylene is extruded through tiny spinnerets, and as it cools and solidifies, fine polypropylene fibers are created.
