Application Methods and Precautions of Resin Sand in Epoxy Resin

Time : 2026-03-31

Resin sand, as a functional filler, is widely used in epoxy resin systems to enhance the mechanical properties, wear resistance, and structural stability of epoxy-based products, such as anti-slip floors, repair mortars, and composite castings. Mastering its correct application method and key precautions is essential to ensure product quality and construction safety.

Application Methods

1. Material Preparation: First, select high-quality resin sand with uniform particle size and low impurity content, and screen it to remove oversized or fine particles. Prepare epoxy resin and curing agent according to the specified ratio, and stir them evenly with a special mixer to avoid agglomeration.

2. Mixing Ratio Control: The dosage of resin sand is generally 30%-60% of the total mass of the epoxy mixture, adjusted according to product requirements. Add resin sand gradually into the well-mixed epoxy resin system, and stir continuously at a low speed to prevent air bubbles from being introduced. Ensure each sand particle is fully coated with epoxy resin.

3. Construction Operation: For anti-slip flooring, apply the epoxy primer first, and evenly spread the resin sand before the primer is completely cured; for mortar repair or casting, pour the mixed epoxy-resin sand mixture directly into the construction area or mold, and smooth it with a trowel. Vibrate slightly to eliminate internal air bubbles and ensure compactness.

4. Curing Treatment: Place the product in a dry, ventilated environment at 20-25for natural curing. Avoid moving or stressing it during curing. Complete curing usually takes 24-48 hours, and subsequent processing can be carried out after the epoxy is fully hardened.

Key Precautions

1. Environmental Requirements: Construction must be carried out in a dry, dust-free environment. Avoid operation in high humidity (above 85%) or low temperature (below 15) conditions, as moisture and low temperature will slow down curing and reduce bonding strength.

2. Safety Protection: Resin sand and epoxy resin may cause irritation to the skin and respiratory tract. Operators must wear gloves, goggles, and masks, and keep the construction area well-ventilated.

3. Storage Notes: Store resin sand in a dry and sealed place to prevent moisture absorption; epoxy resin and curing agent should be kept away from fire and direct sunlight, and stored separately according to safety regulations.

4. Ratio Accuracy: Strictly follow the recommended mixing ratio of epoxy resin, curing agent and resin sand. Excessive resin sand will lead to poor fluidity and weak bonding, while too little will fail to achieve the expected reinforcement effect.
